(G)I-Idle

(G)I-DLE is pronounced as "idle" (ai·dl), similar to the word "idol." The letter "g" is silent. The "(G)" stands for Girl, representing the female nature of the group. The letter "I" symbolizes each member as an individual. The term "DLE" is derived from the Korean word "Deul," which is used to form the plural form of nouns. In this case, it signifies the plural form of "I," indicating that the group consists of multiple individuals. Essentially, the name (G)I-DLE signifies the coming together of six distinct individuals. Additionally, "IDLE" also alludes to the Korean word for children, "아이들" (aideul).

(G)I-DLE earned the nickname "monster rookies" in 2018 and have been recognized as one of the most accomplished girl groups from South Korea that did not come from the "big three" record labels. Since their debut, the group has produced six extended plays and released eight singles, which include popular tracks like "LATATA," "HANN (Alone)," "Senorita," "Uh-Oh," "LION," "Oh my god," "DUMDi DUMDi," "HWAA," "TOMBOY," and "Nxde."

(G)I-DLE has gained recognition for their active participation in their music, as demonstrated by the involvement of their leader, Soyeon, and members Minnie and Yuqi in writing and co-producing their songs. As part of their efforts to expand their reach to a wider audience, the group signed with Republic Records, an American record label, coinciding with the release of their third mini album, "I trust," in 2020. The intention behind this collaboration was to venture into the U.S. market and explore new opportunities.

When (G)I-DLE made their debut, they achieved a remarkable feat as a South Korean girl group. They not only topped the iTunes Top Albums chart but also became the fourth girl group to sell 100,000 copies within the first week of release. Their single album, DUMDi DUMDi, released in 2020, shattered records by becoming the second best-selling single album of all time for a girl group. Additionally, (G)I-DLE made history by being the first K-pop group to be interviewed by Forbes China.
