BLACKPINK (블랙핑크; stylized as BLΛƆKPIИK) is a South Korean girl group formed under YG Entertainment consisting of four members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, the first girl group that debuted under the entertainment agency in seven years after 2NE1. They debuted on August 8, 2016 with their digital single album "Square One", with two songs, Boombayah and Whistle.

Most of the members were also well known among fans when they were still trainees—Jennie having featured in her labelmates' songs and music videos, Lisa being a well-known Thai trainee, and Jisoo appearing as an actress in several music videos and tv shows.

BLACKPINK first music show performance aired on August 14th 2016 on SBS Inkigayo. BLACKPINK won first place on Inkigayo 13 days after their debut.

At the time of its release, "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" was the most-viewed Korean music video in the first 24 hours on YouTube, and in January 2019, it became the most viewed music video by a K-pop group on the website. The former record was broken by their video for "How You Like That" in June 2020, which also became the most viewed YouTube video in the first 24 hours.

All the songs from the Square One, Square Two, Square Up, and Kill This Love albums were produced by Teddy Park.

A viral video of "Forever Young", the second song from the mini-album Square Up, playing in the background on November 2015 became controversial as fans found out that the song had been made several years before BLACKPINK had even debuted (in 2016) and the actual release of the song (in 2018).
