On December 22, 2023, an announcement was made regarding Yena's upcoming return on January 15, 2024. It was confirmed that her third mini album will be titled Good Morning.
This is her first comeback since the controversial release of "Hate Rodrigo." The music video, featuring images of Olivia Rodrigo, faced trademark and copyright issues and had to be re-edited. YENA's comeback was cut short, but now she's back with new music.
[Review] Good Morning
YENA's "Good Morning" has an energetic pop rock/punk sound that will wake you up. It reminds us of her debut but is more amped up and bolder. The instrumentation gives a rush of adrenaline, and YENA's youthful vocals contrast well with the intense rock vibes. This style has been attempted before, but YENA is the most successful at pulling it off.
Good Morning by YENA is a thrilling pop/punk rock sound. The bridge showcases a different side of her vocals, pushing boundaries and adding an airy and stripped back approach.
The music video for the song portrays a theme of letting go of past and future concerns while embracing a new day. The protagonist is shown commuting on a train, with one carriage resembling an office. The video transitions into a dream sequence where she wakes up at midnight to find office workers outside her window, creating a scary atmosphere. She confronts her worries represented by masked dancers and successfully overcomes them by pulling a microphone from a stone, reminiscent of the story of The Sword in the Stone. The video displays a mix of cool, cute, and funny moments, showcasing the team's expertise in executing the concept effectively.
The choreography looks good, but YENA doesn't participate as much as expected. She mainly focuses on singing live with her microphone.
