Koo Hara (ex. KARA)

Koo Hara (구하라; also known as Goo Hara or simply Hara) was a South Korean singer and actress. She was a member of the girl group KARA.

She made her solo debut on July 21, 2015 with the mini album Alohara (Can You Feel It?).

On November 24, 2019, Hara had unfortunately passed away due to suicide.

Personal life

On June 28, 2011, it was announced that Koo Hara had been in a relationship with Yong Junhyung. The couple broke up after two years of dating on March 27, 2013.

In October 2018, she filed a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend and hairdresser Choi Jong Bum who had threatened her with blackmail after filming a sex tape that without her consent. On August 29, 2019, he was given a prison sentence of one year and six months, suspended for three years on four of the five charges against him but was acquitted of the charge related to the sex tape. Hara's legal representatives announced that they would appeal the sentence.

On May 26, 2019, she was found unconscious by her manager at her home after a suicide attempt. She was then admitted to hospital and recovered.

Death

On November 24, 2019, she was found dead at around 6 pm KST at her home in Gangnam, Seoul following a suicide attempt.

– She was born in Gwangju, South Korea.

– She is the Main Dancer, Vocalist, Visual and Face of the Group in KARA.

– Hara gets stomachache very often. Jiyoung said that while eating, Hara often turns to her saying “Jiyoung-ah, unnie’s stomach is hurting so bad”.

-She was a host of KBS’ idol beauty show “A Style For You” along with Super Junior’s Heechul, EXID’s Hani and SISTAR’s Bora.

– In June 2015, she released a beauty book titled Nail Hara.

– She is really straightforward. She says whatever she thinks and that’s why sometimes she is misunderstood as arrogant.

– Goo Hara passed away on November 24th, 2019. Her death is still currently under investigation, but some resources say possible suicide. Six months prior to her death, she had attempted suicide but made a recovery.

– Hara’s ideal type: “I don’t exactly have an ideal type. As long as they love me, it’s good.”

Trivia

In 2020, Instagram made updates to its application and brought the function of memorializing accounts of those who passed away, so the account become a place full of good memories from the time when they were alive, and so that the account do not get deleted due to inactivity. Hara's account was one of those memorialized.
