Mimiirose - Live ( "Flirting")

"Live" is the second single album by mimiirose. It was released on September 14, 2023 with "Flirting" serving as the single's title track.

It has been one year since Mimiirose emerged onto the scene with their highly anticipated track, Rose. This extended break may seem unusual for a rookie group, which is why their next release, Flirting, holds significant importance. Upon listening to their debut album, it was evident that Mimiirose possessed immense potential. Now is the perfect opportunity for them to capitalize on that potential and reaffirm to their fans why they are an indispensable presence in the world of K-pop.

Mimiirose's debut album showcased their strong vocals and mature sound, but unfortunately, their latest song "Flirting" falls short in terms of engagement. Although glimpses of their potential can be heard in certain parts of the track, the melodies fail to fully capitalize on their strengths. The chorus, intended to be soaring, instead takes a higher tone that feels confrontational rather than cathartic. It seems as though the song's structure needed more development and restraint. As it currently stands, "Flirting" comes across as more of a melodic shouting match rather than a cohesive piece.

One positive aspect is my appreciation for the pre-chorus. Driven by an electric guitar, this section provides a hint of drama that is missing from the rest of the song. The pulsating percussion also adds to the overall effectiveness, and it would have been even better to have more of it as Flirting approaches its conclusion.

"TYPSY" is a mix of an early ITZY track and MIXX POP, with BLACKPINK's "As If It's Your Last" incorporated. The combination feels random and the two main sounds clash instead of complimenting each other. It could have been better if the elements were more cohesive.

"A-OK" is an okay track that incorporates synthpop elements from the previous piece. It revolves around this theme rather than introducing a completely different sound. Surprisingly, it works better than "TYPSY". There is a rap verse that switches to a trap-like sound, adding contrast without compromising the overall track. The chorus may sound cliché, but it's acceptable compared to previous tracks.

I am uncertain if the group will ever manage to gain recognition among other lesser-known girl groups and gather a larger following. However, I highly doubt that they will achieve this with a release such as 'Live'.
